How Often Should You Actually Get a Scalp Treatment?

It's one of the most common questions we get, and the honest answer is: it depends on your scalp.

That might sound like a non-answer, but scalp health is genuinely individual. Someone who produces very little oil and maintains a consistent at-home routine has different needs than someone who hasn't had professional scalp care before or whose scalp runs congested year-round. Giving everyone the same recommendation would mean giving most people the wrong one.

Here's how we actually think about it.

The General Framework

For most people, once a month is the right cadence. Monthly treatments allow us to stay ahead of buildup before it becomes a problem, maintain the scalp environment between visits, and track changes over time. It's consistent enough to see meaningful, cumulative improvement, and practical enough to actually stick to.

If Your Scalp Needs More Attention

For clients who are starting from scratch, who haven't had professional scalp care before, who have significant buildup, or who are dealing with an active scalp concern like persistent dandruff or elevated shedding, we sometimes recommend coming in more frequently at first. Weekly visits aren't unusual during an initial correction phase, particularly for scalps that need more intensive resetting before a maintenance cadence makes sense.

Think of it like starting a new fitness routine. The first few weeks often require more effort to establish a foundation. Once that foundation is in place, you maintain it with less work.

If Your Scalp Is in Good Shape

On the other end of the spectrum, clients with naturally lower sebum production, a solid at-home routine, and no active concerns may find that coming in every six to eight weeks is plenty. The goal is to support your scalp's natural function, not to replace it.

How to Know Where You Fall

The most reliable way to figure out the right frequency for your scalp is to start with a scalp analysis. When we take a look at your scalp through our trichoscope, we can visually assess sebum distribution, look for buildup or signs of inflammation, and give you a specific recommendation rather than a generic one.

Your scalp type, your lifestyle, your stress levels, your environment, and your at-home routine all factor in. Two people sitting next to each other in our chairs can have completely different ideal frequencies, and that's normal.

The Case for Membership

If monthly treatment is the right cadence for you, and for most people it is, our membership tiers are built around that rhythm. A membership locks in your regular visits at a reduced rate, keeps retail products discounted, and removes the friction of rebooking every time. It turns scalp care from something you think about into something that just happens on schedule.

We have four membership options depending on which service fits your scalp best. If you're not sure which one is right for you, we'll figure that out together during your consultation.

The Short Answer

Once a month for most people. More frequently if you're correcting an existing concern or starting from a low baseline. Less frequently if your scalp is naturally low-maintenance and in good shape. And the best way to know which category you're in is to come in and let us take a look.
